I can't help but smile wide watching the trailer for "We Are The Best!, " a Swedish film by Lukas Moodysson. The film follows two 13-year-old best friends who are outcasts at their school for being punk rockers after punk is dead. But, guys, punk's not dead! The film was released in the US at the end of May, so find a theater near you and relive the volatile emotions of being 13.
HBO is currently airing the documentary "Marina Abramovic The Artist is Present" about Abramovic's 2010 MoMA retrospective. I've watched many clips from this performance piece, inspired by how powerful it can be to sit for a minute in silence in front of another person. It's a small moment, but when you see her committed to it for 90 days, 6 days a week, 7.5 hours a day, you feel the weight. The clip below is one of my favorites.
*update* I just came across a beautiful collection of photos from the exhibition shot by Marco Anelli. These images have been compiled into a tumblr aptly called "Marina Abramovic Made Me Cry", one of the best tumblr names ever. It's so interesting to scroll through and see both the emotion and time stamp from each photo.
Randall Poster is a music supervisor for films that have shaped me as a person. Best known for his work with Wes Anderson, he's also been behind films like Kids, Boys Don't Cry, Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, I'm Not There, and TV shows Lost and Boardwalk Empire.

After much anticipation, I went to see "Pina" tonight with Ben. I've had the trailer on repeat in the studio, and the film went beyond my expectations. It is literally breath taking to watch the power of dance to convey emotions. I felt myself swing from fear to joy to laugh out loud laughter at the various characters and scenes. The film, directed by Wim Wenders, showcases the work of Pina Bausch, and is cut with interviews by her dancers recalling Pina and the role she played in their lives. You can't help but walk out of the theater rethinking the way we all move through life and the small gestures and everyday movements we make.
The new Wes Anderson trailer for Moonrise Kingdom hit last week and I may have watched it at least 6x in a row. Folks tend to fawn all over Anderson because his visual stories are so rich. The production quality alone can leave you spinning in a dizzy, as he just layers and layers the details. Sometimes those details choke out the actual storyline, but I'm ok with that. There are certain films we watch just for the sheer beauty, and Anderson films definitely fall into that category for me.
