“The studio is a physical manifestation of my curiosity. I think with my hands, finding ways to take an idea beyond what’s expected and create delight for all your senses.”

- Natalie Davis

Meet Natalie Davis

Natalie is a creative director, artist, and coach with a deep appreciation of her craft. She received a B.A. in Design|Media Arts from UCLA and her M.F.A. in 2-D Design from Cranbrook Academy of Art. As a first-generation Arab-American, handmade goods and traditional artistry have always been a part of her life. Through Canoe, she continues to explore the ornate textiles, furniture and objects of her youth through the tactile practice of ceramics and leatherworking. She enjoys educating others through workshops, collaborations, coaching, and speaking engagements.

Our Process

Tradition in Hand

Natalie’s creative process is informed by taking a concept and pairing down to its most pure form, a form that is enticing, minimal and unexpected. Many of her leather goods are solutions to beautifying everyday objects and providing functional pieces that will be cherished for many years. The attention to detail in construction and finishing speak to Natalie’s many years honing her craft.

Engaging the Senses

Canoe goods engage all five senses. Color, shape, pattern, scent, and texture are explored with unique sculptural forms. As a hearty material, leather is used to create mirrors, art, and other inventive objects which not only surprise, but casts leatherwork in a different light. For those who can’t visit in person, the scent of the studio has been captured in an award-winning natural perfume called Skive.
